Bradbury, in his Norway in the Fourties, says of him: "He was careful and circumspect under all discouraging circumstances and thought of his steps and his appearance in the barn and field with as great care as in his neighbor's house or church. ... He was a pleasant gentleman of medium height, stooping shoulders, a clean-shaved beard, tidy in appearance and spoke in a decided quiet tone, measuring his words and completing his sentences as he measured his grain and fully completed the bushels" |
