Deacon Jeremiah Woodcock, the son of John and Sarah (Smith) Woodcock. He was born on 6 June 1675 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. On 5 January 1698 Jeremiah married first Mary Metcalf. He served was elected Selectman in 1712 in Needham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He served again as a Selectman in 1714, 1719, 1722, and 1723. According to the Needman church records , "On May 17, 1720, Jeremiah Woodcock and Timothy Kingsbury were chosen deacons of the first church at Needham, and accepted, but Deacon Woodcock tendered his resignation Jan. 7th, 1729-30 because the church voted 'that it is not agreeable to the mind of the church, that the deacons be ordained.' And on Feb. 4th Eleazer Kingsbury was elected, presumably to take the place of Deacon Woodcock." He died on Wednesday 27 September 1752 at age 77 years, 3 months and 21 days. |
