(2) Geoffrey de Mandeville, Earl of Essex and Gloucester, the son of Geoffrey FitzPiers, Earl of Essex and Beatrice de Say. Geoffrey married first, Maud, daughter of Robert FitzWauter of Woodham and Gunnor de Valoines. Geoffrey de Say, attempted to recover the Mandeville estates from him in February 1213, but failed. He became the Earl of Essex on 4 November 1213. [Geoffrey married second Isabelle de Clare Countess of Gloucester] It appears that this marriage was forced upon Geoffrey. By it he became the Earl of Gloucester, however for this honor, he had to pay 20,000 marks. In April of 1215, he joined the barons against King John. On 16 December 1215, he and his brother, William, were excommunicated by the Pope. He was killed at a tournament 23 February 1216 in London, England. He was buried in Trinity Priory, Aldgate, London, England. |

[Hubert married second, Isabelle de Clare Countess of Gloucester] On 19 June 1221 Hubert, married third, Margaret of Scotland, daughter of William I "the Lion" King of Scotland and Ermengarde de Beaumont. He died 12 May 1243 in Banstead, Surrey, England. He was buried in Black Friars Church, Holborn, London, England. |
