(2) Isabelle de Clare, Countess of Gloucester, the daughter of William FitzRobert Earl of Gloucester and Bristol and Hawise de Beaumont. She was born before 1176. On 29 August 1189 Isabelle, married first, John Lackland, King of England, at age 21, son of Henry II Curt Mantel, King of England and Eleanor of Aquitain, Dutchess of Aquitaine, in Marlborough Castle, Wiltshire, England. She and the King were divorced in 1199. John divorced her on the ground of consanguinity, her grandfather, Robert, being an illegitimate son of Henry I. [Isabelle married second Geoffrey de Mandeville, Earl of Essex and Gloucester] It appears that this marriage was forced upon Geoffrey. By it he became the Earl of Gloucester, however for this honor, he had to pay 20,000 marks. In September 1217 Isabelle married third, Hubert de Burgh, Earl of Kent, son of Walter de Burgh.5 She died 14 October 1217. She was buried in Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, Kent, England.
