After Richard II "the Good"'s death in 1027, Nicholas, then an infant, was immediately relegated to a monastery (first to Fécamp and then Saint Ouen in Rouen) and Robert "the Devil" took over as 5th Duke of Normandy. In later life, Nicholas was a loyal supporter of his cousin William the Conqueror. About 1042, Nicholas became Abbot of the monastery of Saint Ouen [1] |
