- He was summoned to fight in Wales in 1257, and the next year, 1258, he was among the nobles sent to help the King of Scotland. In 1264, during the Barons' War, he accompanied the King to the siege of Northampton. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Lewes in 1264, and freed after the battle of Eversham in 1265.
