    Text A. F. Gallagher, 85, Ex-A&P Offial, Dies

    Aloysius F. Gallagher. 85, first vice president of Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., North-Eastern Pennsylvania, from 1925 to 1966, died Tuesday in hn home in Drticl after an illness. His wife, the former Elizabeth Hennesay, died in 1966

    Born in Binginham, son of the late Francis and Anna Donovan Gallagher, he took hit first job with AP in 1901 . He later transferred to Scranton in 1922 as general superintendent. He became f i rat vice president in 1925 and in 1930 was placed in charge of operations in the Philadelphia area.

    In 1938 he returned to Scranton, remaining here until his retirement in 1950 At that time ha was overseeing 232 food stores in Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New York State.

    A retirement party was given in Hotel Casey, Scranton, attended by more than 600 official and employees, honoring his career of 48 years with the A&P chain.

    Mr. Gallagher was Interested in community affairs and participated in Community Chest and Chamber of Commerce activities and was a member of the Better Business Bureau. He was president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in 1945, was a member of Binghamton Council, Knights of Columbus, and St. Dorothy's Roman Catholic Church, Drexel Hill.

    Surviving are two sons, Joseph and Paul, Philadelphia; two daughters, Mrs. William Kane, Franklin Lakes, N.J.; Mm. Edmund Sullivan, Drexel Hill; a brother, Patrick, Sewell, N.J.; two foster daughters, Mrs. Margaret Becker, Scranton; Mrs. David Porter, Norfolk, Va.; 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

    The funeral will be Saturday from Victor J. Ruffenach Funeral Home, Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Dorothy's Church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohoaken. Friends may call Friday 7 to 9
