James Tate was born on 19 July 1873 at Newtownards, County Down, Ireland.2,1,3 He was the son of Joseph Tate and Jane Cooper.1 James Tate immigrated in 1895 to the United States from Ireland.2
James Tate married Louise C. Sahr, daughter of Albert M. Sahr and Margaret Elizabeth Merdian, circa 1908.
James Tate and Louise C. Sahr obtained a marriage license on 29 August 1912 at Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.8 James, age 46 years, and Louise, age 32 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on 413 Hammond Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.2 James, age 56, appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at 1250 Faulkner Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,in the household of his wife's parents, Albert M. and Margaret Elizabeth Sahr. His wife is not recorded.9 James Tate died on 16 January 1951 at Los Angeles County, California, at age 77.3
