     Gilbert Matthews was born circa 1879 at Vermont. He was the son of Joseph Matthews and Jane Elisabeth Pareau. Gilbert appeared on the US Census of 1880 living at Montpelier, Vermont,in the household of his parents, Joseph and Eliza Matthews.1
