Nelson Burnett

     Nelson Burnett was born on 5 July 1853 at Alburgh, Vermont.^1,2 He was the son of François Bonin and Zoe Babin dite LaCroix. Nelson Burnett was christened on 30 July 1853 in the Église de Saint-Georges, Henryville, Québec, Canada, He was christened Narcisse Bonin.² Nelson, age 5, appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Alburgh, Vermont,in the household of his parents, Franklin and Zoe Burnett.³ Nelson, age 17, appeared on the US Census of 1870 living at Altona, Clinton County, New York,in the household of his parents, Frank and Zoe Burnett.⁴

Nelson Burnett married Julia Barnaby, daughter of Peter Martin Barnaby and Julia Lamountain, in 1873.



Nelson, age 38 years, and Julia, age 33 years , appeared on the New York State Census of 1892 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.⁵ Nelson, age 46 years, and Julia Burnett, age 41 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.¹ According to the Federal Census in 1900, Nelson was a farm laborer.¹ Nelson, age 56 years, and Julia Burnett, age 51 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.⁶ According to the Federal Census in 1910, Nelson was an odd job laborer.⁶ Nelson, age 61 years, and Julia, age 56 years , appeared on the New York State Census of 1915 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.⁷ Nelson, age 66 years, and Julia, age 61 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on Main Street, Altona, Clinton County, New York.⁸ Nelson, age 71 years, and Julia, age 66 years , appeared on the New York State Census of 1925 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.⁹ Nelson, age 76 years, and Julia Burnett, age 71 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.¹⁰ Nelson, age 86 years, and Julia Burnett, age 81 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 at Altona, Clinton County, New York.¹¹ He died on 2 February 1941 at Altona, Clinton County, New York, at age 87.¹²
