Deacon John Chapin was born on 13 May 1698 at Mendon, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Seth Chapin and Bethiah Thurston.1
Deacon John Chapin married Dorcas Wood, daughter of Solomon Wood and Mary Hazeltine, in 1718 at Mendon, Massachusetts.1
John married second on 10 September 1768 at Sherborn, Massachusetts, Ruth Day, the daughter of John and Ruth (Puffer) Day. She was born 1 October 1707 in Wrentham, Massachusetts. She died in 1807 in Sherborn, Massachusetts. She had previously been married to John Hill and Benjamin Bullard. After John's death, she married Ezekiel Rice.1 He died on 3 August 1770 at Mendon, Massachusetts, at age 72.1
