     Archie Dow Smith was born on 22 October 1895 at Lewis Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.3,4,5 He was the son of James G. Smith and Sarah A. Savidge.2 Archie, age 4, appeared on the US Census of 1900 living at Limestone, Clarion County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James G. and Sarah A. Smith.4 Archie, age 14, appeared on the US Census of 1910 living at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James G. and Sarah A. Smith.6 Archie registered for the draft giving his age as 21 and his employer as J. H. Smith. on 5 June 1917 at McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.7 He enlisted on 4 December 1917 and served until discharged on 15 March 1919 as a corporal. He was with the 682ed Areo Squadron stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.5 Archie, age 24, appeared on the US Census of 1920 living at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James G. and Sarah A. Smith. He was a laborer in the building industry.8

Archie Dow Smith, age 27, married Rachel Oakes, age 32 , daughter of James Bruce Oakes and Rachel Anne Beard, on 12 April 1923 at Watsontown, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Archie D. Smith, of Mifflinburg, and Miss Rachel Oakes, of near Watsontown, were united in marriage Thursday, April 12th, at the Reformed parsonage at Watsontown. The ring ceremony was used and was performed by the pastor, Rev. P. A. DeLong. Following the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Smith left on a honeymoon by automobile. Mr. Smith is engaged in business in Mifflinburg. His bride recently returned from Philadelphia, where she was in training for a nurse they will make their home in Mifflinburg. Their many friends join in extending best wishes.

Archie, age 34 years, and Rachel Oakes, age 39 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 at Mifflinburg, Union County, Pennsylvania.9 According to the Federal Census in 1930, Archie was the manager in a Beverage Factory.9 Archie and Rachel, appeared on the Veterans Schedule of the US Census of 1940 at 353 Second Street, Northumberland, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.10 According to the Federal Census in 1940, Archie was a bottler.10 Archie registered for the draft giving his age as 46 and his employer as Shapiro, N.Y. Contractors. in 1942 at 462 Memorial Parkway, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York.3 Archie, age 54 years, and Rachel Oakes, age 59 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at 1021 Ferry Avenue, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York.11 According to the Federal Census in 1950, Archie was a carpenter.11 He died on 12 February 1985 at North Tonawanda, Niagara County, New York, at age 89.12 Archie's obituary of 13 February 1985, reads:

SMITH -Archie D. 89, of North Tonawanda, Feb. 12, 1985, husband of the late Rachel Oakes Smith; father of Mrs. Arthur (S. Jean) Dolan, Mrs. Richard (Mary Louise) Burton, Miss Ruth Anna Smith, Mrs. Charles (Grace E.) Scott and Mrs. Richard (Dorothy R.) Capatosto; grandfather of 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Friends may call Wed. from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the WATTENGEL FUNERAL HOME INC., 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, where an evening service will be held Wed.at 9 PM, the Rev. Jerry McGlone and Rev. Charles W. Hobbs Sr. officiating. Interment McEwensville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Payne - Avenue Christian Church.

Archie was buried at McEwensville Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.12
