Elihu Hayes was born on 28 January 1765 at Somersworth, Colony of New Hampshire.1 He was the son of Captain John Hayes and Hannah Waldron.1
Elihu married first on 16 March 1789 at Lebanon, Massachusetts (Maine), Esther Jones. She was born circa 1770 and died 26 February 1805 in Lebanon, Maine in childbirth.1 He was the Town Treasurer of Lebanon, Maine for 16 years, the Town Clerk for 28 years and a Justice of the Peace for 42 years.1
Elihu Hayes, age 41, married Sarah Lord, age 29 , daughter of Elder Ebenezer Lord and Jane Hight, on 1 January 1807 at the Lebanon, Massachusetts (Maine).
Elihu was selected to be a Senator to the Massachusetts General Court in 1814.1 He died on 1 May 1857 at Lebanon, Maine, at age 92.1
