Joshua Woodman was born circa 1636 at Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.1,2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Lt. Edward Woodman and Joanna Salway. Joshua Woodman may have lived between 1660 and 1668 at Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts, having built a house there. Whether he resided there is questionable.7 On 6 June 1662, The selectman of Newbury had without full authority build some new seats in the gallery of the meeting house and then assigned them to some individuals. Joshua along with three others occupied these seats. They were called to court and had accept blame. They stated that we will keep to our own seats and not disturb any man in their seats any more. on 6 June 1662.5
Joshua Woodman married Elizabeth Stevens, age 20 , daughter of Captain John Stevens and Elizabeth Parker, on 22 January 1665/66 at Andover, Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Joshua took the the oath of allegiance in 1678 giving his age as 41.7,2 He purchased 12 acres in Newbury from Benjamin Lowle in 1689.2 He was buried at Byfield Parish Cemetery, Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. Joshua's epitaph reads:
Joshua wrote his will on 27 March 1703 at Newbury, Province of Massachusetts Bay.2,4,6 He died on 30 May 1703 at Newbury, Province of Massachusetts Bay.1,3,5,6 This gravestone had become illegible from weathering, and was replaced by a replica in 1929 byEdward Woodmanof Portland, Maine and his nephew, Cyrus Woodman of Cambridge, Massachusetts.6 His estate was probated on 12 July 1703 at Ipswich, Province of Massachusetts Bay.7,2,4,15
