Michael Gallagher was born in 1807 at Longford, County Longford, Ireland.1,2 He was the son of Michael Gallagher and Ann MacDermott. Michael Gallagher and Mary Degnan immigrated before 1842 as their youngest child, John, was born about 1842 according to the 1850 census.1
Michael Gallagher married Mary Degnan, daughter of Peter Degnan and Bridget Shields. Michael, age 43 years, and Mary Gallagher appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.1 According to the census in 1850, Michael was a tanner.1 Michael, age 18, appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Choconut Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, Michael and Ann Gallagher. and hiswife and family; Their son, Michael, and his family lived with them.3 Michael Gallagher died between 1860 and 1870 at Binghamton, Broome County, New York.2 According to the census in 1860, Michael was a farmer.3
