Gravestone of Maria (Durham) Oakes
     Maria Durham was born on 2 June 1816 at Pennsylvania.2,3 She was the daughter of James Durham and Margaret McClintock.1

Maria Durham married James Bruce Oakes, son of Captain John W. Oakes and Hannah Ann Sells, in 1846.4,1 As of 1846,her married name was Oakes. Maria, age 33 years, and James Oakes, age 48 years, appeared on the US Census of 1850 at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.2 Maria, age 43 years, and James Oakes, age 58 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.5 Maria, age 53 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Delaware Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.6 She died on 5 April 1881 at Gregg Township, Union County, Pennsylvania, at age 64.3,1 She was buried at Warrior Run Church Cemetery, Delaware Run, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, in plot A-11L. Maria's epitaph reads:
