    • Obituary: 18 Oct 1909;

      Thomas Daley.

      Thomas Daley, one of the oldest and best known residents of this borough, passed away at the family home, on Tunkhannock avenue, this morning at 3 o'clock. Death was due to general debility and was entirely unexpected. Mr. Daley was born in Maryland 70 years ago, but came here at a very early age with his parents, who were among the earliest West Pittston settlers. He was a member of St. Cecilia's congregation and also the Holy Name society. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, John E. and George F., of Clarksville, Arkansas, and four daughters, Anna, Mary, Elizabeth and Rose, at home. One sister, Mrs. Mary McCluskey, of Plank street, Pittston, and one brother, James, of Railroad street, also survive. The funeral announcement will be made later.

    Notes:

    Birth: In the 1870 and 1880 Census' he lists his birth place as Ireland. In the 1900, he lists his birth place as Maryland which is how it appears on his death certificate. However, in the 1860 Census, his parents listed his birth place as Maryland. I can only conclude that after 1880, he discovered that he was born in Maryland rather than in Ireland.
