Soon after assuming the throne, his brother, Cyrus led a revolt. He put the revolt down, defeating and killing Cyrus at the Battle of Cunoxa in 401 BCE. He attacked Egypt twice in 385 and 375 BCE, failing both times. He made changes to the Persian religion, restoring the worship of the older gods.
