    • Obituary: 26 Apr 2016; Shirley Buell, 98, of Cabot, formerly of Athol, Mass., passed away April 13 at the Concordia Lutheran Ministries Ortal Assisted Living Center. Shirley was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of Harry L. and Ruth E. (Ward) Woodman. Shirley was active in the Girl Scouts and earned its highest award, the Golden Eaglet, in 1936. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1935 and Lowell Business School in 1937. During World War II, she worked at the Army Hospital on Fort Devens, where she met her first husband, Capt. Robert G. Roy. During his military service, they lived in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Germany and Virginia. Upon his retirement in 1957, they settled in Athol. Robert G. Roy died in 1966, and in 1979, she married Harry C. Buell, and moved to Petersham, Mass. Harry Buell died in 2002. In 2008, she moved to West Virginia with her son and his family. In 2010, she moved to Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, living next door to her sister, Janice. She worked at military hospitals at Fort Devens, Mass., Stuttgart, Germany, and Butler. After she moved to Athol, she worked at the former Minute Tapioca plant in Orange, Mass., and Athol Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Athol, where she was a lay eucharistic minister, vestry person, youth leader and newsletter publisher. Mrs. Buell served on the board of directors for the former Peoples Bridge Action and worked on the polls and voter registration in Petersham. An avid reader, she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, quilting, flower gardening and rug braiding. She was predeceased by her husbands, Robert G. Roy and Harry C. Buell; and her sister, Janice Farmer. Mrs. Buell is survived her son, AVCM Robert A. Roy of Paw Paw, W.Va.; her grandson, Robert W. Roy of Wexford; and three stepsons, David Buell of North Sullivan, Maine, Larry Buell of Petersham and Charles Buell of Petersham. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren. BUELL — Calling hours for Shirley Buell, who died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, with a Resurrection Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Athol.       James H. "Jocko" Myers James H. "Jocko" Myers, 78, of 414 St. Clair St., Latrobe, died Tuesday, March 13, 1990, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1912, in Latrobe, a son of the late Joseph L. and Anna Geiger Myers. He was a retired steelworker from Latrobe Steel Co. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy Name and Altar societies of the church, the FO Eagles Aerie 01188 and the Frontier Club, Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Quinn Myers, in 1960; a son, John Robert, in 194; four brothers, Paul, William, Joseph and Charles, and a sister, Elisabeth Bercel. He is survived by six sons, James H. Jr. and Thomas J., both of Latrobe, Kenneth F. of Derry, Richard P. of Bradenville, Frederick A. of Houston, Texas, and Joseph R. of Fremont, Calif.; four daughters, Sister Connie Myers of Gate City, Va Mrs. Eric (Rosemary) Marnell of Cape Neddick, Maine, Regina Myers of Pittsburgh and Kathleen Fenell of Bradenville; a brother, Raymond of North Wales, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Chester (Madeline) Ludwig of Latrobe; 17 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Dell-Frederick Funeral Home, 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Latrobe. Interment will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. The FO Eagles will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home to conduct a service. November 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Regina Schultz Quinn and Mark Quinn. She was a member of Holy Family Church and the Altar and Rosary Societies. She is survived by her husband, James H. Myers, and the following children: Sister Mary Corrine of Pittsburgh; James H. Jr., Kenneth Francis, Richard ' Paul, Thomas Joseph, Rosemary, Frederick L. Regina Alice, Kathleen, Joseph and John, all at home. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Frank Elizabeth) Schisler, Mt. Washington. Friends will be received at the Stader Funeral Home beginning Friday. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. A requiem high mass will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Church. Interment will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.

She was born June 10, 1918, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Phoebe (Green) Brindel. Prior to her retirement, Althea was a sales associate for the former Troutman's Department Store in Latrobe. She was an active member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, Latrobe, where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Latrobe Community Chorus and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 221. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Conrad L. Gordon and Ralph W. Sanders; three brothers, Paul, Charles and George Brindel; a sister, Ethel Mae Keller; and a stepson, Lee Roy Gordon. She is survived by three daughters, Betty Myers and husband, Kenneth, of Derry, Joanne Schandel and husband, Richard, of Derry, and Janet Moore and husband, Barry, of Tempe, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Jean Hartzell of Port Arthur, Texas; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe.
