    He was one of the first settlers and signed the Combination at Exeter in 1639.

    Whereas it hath pleased the Lord to move the heart of our dread sovereign Charles, by the grace of God king, etc., to grant license and liberty to sundry of his subjects to plant themselves in the western parts America, we, his loyal subjects, brethren in the church in Exeter, situate and lying upon the river Pascataquacke, with other inhabitants there, considering with ourselves the holy will of God and our own necessity, that we should not live without wholesome laws and government among us, of which we are altogether destitute, do in the name of Christ and in the sight of God combine ourselves together to erect and set up amongst us such government as shall be to our best discerning agreeable to the will of God, professing our.'selves subjects to our sovereign lord King Charles, according to the liberties of our English colony of the Massachusetts, and binding ourselves solemnly by the grace and help of Christ and in his name and fear to submit ourselves to such godly and Christian laws as are here established in the realm of England to our best knowledge, and to all other such laws which shall upon good grounds be made and enacted amongst us according to God, that we may live quietly and peaceably together in all godliness and honesty.

    "Goodman Elkine" was granted four acres twenty poles in a division of the uplands.

    On 28 September 1647, he was on a Grand Jury in Ipswich.

    History:
    In March 1650, he moved to Hampton, New Hampshire.

    In the seating of the Hampton meetinghouse on 4 March 1649/50, "Hen[ry] Elkin" was the third seat at the west end of the table, and "Goody Elkin" was in the fourth seat next Mistress Wheelwright.

    On 18 May 1654, he sold one share in the last division of ox common granted on 22 January 1651 to John Cass of Hampton.

    On 13 October 1668, Joseph Dow, aged 30 years deposed that at the request of John Cass he went to Henry Elkins at the beginning of last summer, about June, to see if he would acknowledge a bill of sale of a share in the ox common 14 or 15 years before, but he refused, saying he had been cheated.

    On 27 Apr 1667, he made his will:

    I Henry Elkins of Hampton in ye County of Norfolk in new england being very aged weake & infirme of body but of sound & 'pefect sence & understanding: doe make this my last will & Testament as followeth

    1st: I give & bequeathe unto my loveing Sone : Gershom Elkins• my dwelling house & out howsing being & standing, on my house Lott

    It: I give unto my sone Gershom my house Iott being 'iii estimacon five acres more or less as it is Hing between ye Iott of Godfrey dearborn towards y• East & y• land of m' Hussey sometimes Jefferie Mingays towards ye west to him & his heires for ever

    It: I give unto my Sone Gershom Elkins two acres & an halfe of planting land liing between ye land of Tho: Levitt towards y• East & ye land of Henry Dearborn towards ye west more or less as it is

    It: I give to my Sone Gersom, one share of ye Cows com'on according to ye true estimacon thereof as ye Com'ons are ivided by yv towne

    It: I give unto my Sone Gershom Elkins ye one halfe of my land of ye 2·1 division at y' west end of ye towne called ye new plantacon being by estimacon forty acres more or less as it is

    It: I. give to my Sone Gershom my two Oxen & my Cowe & one calfe & my horse & all ye moveables in ye house & feild & he is to take care to im'ijlve ye same & to Wvide for my comfortable livelihood whilst I am in this world

    His inventory was valued at £45 7/10, appraised by Godfrey Dearborn and Giles Fuller.£31 10/ was the real estate of one house and house lot (£15) and two acres and a half of land (£3 10/).
