He received land in the first division of Salisbury in 1640 and 1641. Robert visited old England in 1650 or 1651. He was listed as a commoner in 1650 but paid the largest tax in Salisbury in 1652. He signed the petition of 1658. Both he and Martha were first on a list of members of the First Church of Salisbury in 1687. He was embroiled in controversy much of his life. He fought for the right of petition and was both excommunicated and disenfranchised during his life. In 1692, he spoke out against the witchcraft delusion.
