I, Jonathan Greele in the Co. of Essex in the Prov of the Mass Bay in New England, yeoman, being in good health and perfect mind and memory, but not knowing how soon my change may come do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following, viz: First of all, I commit my soul to God in Christ, my blessed Savior, and my body to the dust to be decently buried by my executors in hopes of a blessed resurrection to life eternal and as to my temporal estate, I do demise and dispose of the same as followeth viz: First, my will is that all my debts and funeral charges be duly paid by my executors ; and secondly, I give and bequeath to my sons David & Samuel, their heirs and assigns, to be equally divided between them forever, all my homestead on which I now live. In which division my son Samuel shall have about 4 A. at the upper end next the street, between my home and Wm Allen's land, and to be run down over the first * * * with the barn and old house thereupon, and appurtenances; and my son David shall have as much land adjoining to his to run down from the street by the wall to the lower end of my pasture at the ferry road. All the rest of my homestead, upland, meadows or islands, shall be equally divided between them ; and also my lot in the cow pasture, of about 18 A., lying between the way to Byfield, so called, and the way to James French's; and also my lot of land below the neck bridge of about 12 A., butting at one end on the highway to the beach and on the other end on the great meadows so called ; and also my lot at the points, so called, which I bought of the Flanders of about 4 or 5 A. ; and also my salt marsh at Rolfes Island, so called, of about 6 A. ; and also my 2 A of salt marsh at the beach, butting westerly and southerly on the creek, and easterly on Samuel Cloughs marsh ; and also 3 commonages in Salsbury /. e. Greele's Parker's Flander's. In consideration of which bequests above mentioned my said sons David & Samuel shall pay the following legacies viz; in old tenor bills of credit £20. to my daughter Wheeler & £15. apiece to my daughters Sarah Brown & Mary Smith, and £15. apiece to the sons of my son Philip Greele, dec'd, and £10. to his daughter, when they come to full age. Item, Third, I give to my son Benjamin, his heirs and assigns forever, my pasture in the cow common at the crotch of the brook, on the north side of the way to Byfield, so called, of about 8 or 10 A. ; and also my lot of land at the salt marsh points, so called, of about 6 or 7 A., which I bought of the * * * and also about 4 or 5 A. of salt marsh at the beach which I bought of my father Greele, cutting easterly on the beach bank; and 2 common rights in Salsbury, he paying to my son Jonathan 40s. old tenor. Item, Fourth, I give to my daughters the above mentioned legacies to be paid as aforesaid by Daniel & Samuel ; and also my household stuff to my 3 daughters ; and finally I give to my sons David & Samuel all my cash & stock of all sorts; my wearing clothes and all my husbandry tools and implements and my pew in the meeting house; they paying my just debts and funeral charges ; whom I appoint executors of this my last will and testment. Witness my hand and seal this ist day of March A. D. 1749-50, and in the 23d of his majesty, reign, King George 2d of Great Britain.
