Robert Wheaton was in active sympathy with Obadiah Holmes and Roger Williams, the latter being banished from Salem and the Colony in the fall of 1635, by the Puritans. Roger Williams, who was a Welshman and a Baptist, removed to Rehohoth, which was in the jurisdiction of the Pilgrim Fathers of Plymouth, who, though more tolerant than the Puritans, yet drove him still farther on and across the Blackstone River, where he founded the present city of Providence.

To son Benjamin GDe half my fifty acre lot and my share of meadow on the North Side and one third of my undivided lands in the North Purchase, all which I have given him by deed of gift. To my son Samuel's children ten pounds estate of Commons in Rehoboth. To my three daughters, Bethiah, Hannah and Mary twelve pence each. To my beloved wife Alice, my house, lands and meadows, household goods and stock not otherwise disposed of, she to be sole .. executrix. If my wife decease before me, what estate I have given her shall be equally divided among all my children, son Joseph to have my house and home lot upon an indifferent appraisal, and to pay the value above his share to his brothers and sisters.     Birth: Hill's (1887) statement that Robert Wheaton was born in 1605 in Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales is in error, and is based on an earlier incorrect statement. This was cleared up by Bowen (2001).
