• Legal: 11 Dec 1595, Over Wallop, Hampshire, England; Richard Pyle of Upper Wallop, yeoman, aged 76, deposed at Andover, Hampshire, in a suit between the Vicars Choral of York and Simon Purdew, plaintiffs, and William Typper and Margaret Thornborough, deforciants, concerning the parsonage at Nether Wallop. He stated that Simon Purdew’s father was named Richard Purdew.
• Will: 20 Mar 1604; He mentioned his sons: Edward, Walter, and Richard.
• Will: 20 Mar 1603/04; Richard Pyle “of Upper Wallop in the countie of Southampton the unprofitable servante of God, weak in bodye by reason of age, but strong in mynde,” named his sons Edward, Walter, and Richard, and left to every one of his children’s children two ewe sheep apiece and ten shillings in money. He left “to each of my daughters” £10 to be paid within six weeks after his decease, but did not name any of them or indicate how many there were. Son Walter was “to hold for his life my tenements in Porton wherein he now dwelleth,” with reversion to his wife Agnes, then to their son Richard; Walter also received sheep and £20. Son Edward Pyle was to have a hundred sheep in Allington and at Collingbourne, Wiltshire, and £6 worth of household stuff, and “my lands in Collingbourne.” Agnes, wife of Robert Warde of Choldrington, was to receive two sheep, and Richard Rutter of Choldrington, 10s. To each of “my servants,” 12d. Son Richard was to be executor, with William Kente[45] of Russell, Wiltshire, and Henry Pyle of Upper Wallop and Robert Whityacre of the same, overseers. Witnesses were David Pyle, Richard Osgood, and Henry Osgood, both Osgoods signing by mark.
