    He was a twin.

    History:
    The twin brothers, Waleran and Robert, were brought up in the court of Henry I, and in November of 1119, the accompanied the King when he interviewed Pope Calixtus at Gisors. The twins astonished the Cardinals by their learning. At the king's death, they were both at his bedside.

    In 1118, he succeeded as the Earl of Leicester after his father's death.

    In 1122, he was knighted.

    After the death of Henry I, Robert supported Stephen, and ended up at war with Roger de Tosny for a number of years. He returned to England with Stephen.

    In 1155, he was appointed Justiciar by King Henry II and served until his death.

    Miscellaneous:
    After William I died, Robert supported William Rufus with whom he sided against Robert "Courtheuse" in 1098. When William Rufus died, he became a leading adviser to Henry I. When Ives de Grandmesnil died on Crusade, Robert obtained his estates which he had mortgaged to him. He therefore held about one quarter of the town of Leicester.

    Military:
    He was among the barons who joined with Henry I on his arrival in Normandy, and was part of the King's army at Tenchebrai on 28 September 1106. His castle at Meulan was besieged by Louis VI and carried by storm. He retaliated the next year with a plundering raid on Paris.

    Robert married Isabel de Vermandois, Countess of Leicester in 1096, and was divorced in 1115. According to Delorme, some historians have interpreted this letter from the Pope as being indicative of Anne's conversion to Roman Catholicism from Eastern Orthodoxy.

    In 1682, the Jesuit antiquary Claude-Francois Menestrier announced that he had discovered Anne's tomb at the Cistercian Abbey of Villiers. The discovery was subsequently disputed, as Villiers was not built until the thirteenth century, although it's possible Anne's remains had been moved there at some point following her death. Whatever monument may have been there was destroyed in the French Revolution.
