In 605 BCE, he was defeated in the battle of Carchemish by Nebuchadressar, but in 601 BCE, he defeated Nebuchadressar securing the Egyptian boarders. He began the construction of a canal to the Red Sea, and during his reign, an Egyptian fleet circumnavigated Africa in a 3 year voyage.
