Capt. Adam Wheeler, the son of Ephraim and Miriam (Martin) Wheeler. He was born on 29 April 1732 in Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He served in the French and Indian War, and was a Captain during the Revolution, having served at Lexington, Charlestown, Bunker Hill, Newark, Stillwater, Albany, and White Plains. He was ordained a deacon in Hubbardston, Worcester County, Massachusetts. After the war, he felt the injustice of the Massachusetts government and raised a company of 100 men, and with 80 of them, marched to Worcester where he took control of the courthouse. By this action, he became the number two man of Shay's Rebellion, and fled to Canada upon its collapse. In 1791, he petitioned the town of Hubbardston to help him pay his debts incurred in the revolt. The town happily complied. He died on Tuesday 24 August 1802 in Hubbardston, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
