  Rebecca was accused as a witch in 1692. The chief incitement against her was her deafness. After her first trial, the Governor reprieved her, but the pressure of the crowd and her accusers lead to a second trial. Her deafness, she was 72 years old, caused her to misunderstand a question, and her answer was interrupted as incriminating, thereby leading to a second conviction, and her eventual hanging.
