John de Balliol King of Scotland, the son of Sir John de Balliol, Baron of Bywell and Devorguille, He was born about 1250. [John, married Isabel de Warrenne] When, in 1290, Margaret, the Maid of Norway, died, John claimed the crown of Scotland in right of his grandmother, Margaret, eldest daughter of David, Earl of Huntington. His right was confirmed 17 November 1292. He abdicated on 10 July 1296. He lost his Barony and finally in 1302 retired to his estates in France. There he lived out the remainder of his life in obscurity. He died before 4 January 1314.
