  	In 1164, he was present at the council of Northampton, and joined in the denunciation of Archbishop Thomas. He supported King Henry II in 1173, against the king's sons. In 1176, he was one of the escorts of Joan, daughter of King Henry II, to her marriage to the King of Sicily. Inn 1189, he attended the coronation of King Richard I, and later supported the kings chancellor against the intrigues of Prince John against the King. Then he was one of the treasurers of he ransom for King Richard. At King Richard I's second coronation, Earl Hamelin was carried one of the three swords. Then in 1199, he attended the coronation of King John.
