In 965, the two forces met at Duncrub, and Dubh was the victor but Cuilen fled. When Dubh was killed, Cuillen asumed the throne.
John of Fordun refers to Dubh in the late 14th century "as a man of dove-like simplicity but harsh on rebels and lawlessness in his realm".

Eventually an agreement was reached where Stephen continued as King, but upon his death, Maud’s son, Henry would become King of England.
