Robert was in debt to the Jews and assumed the debt of his father to the Crown. He made grants to the Greenfield Priory, to Bardney Abbey, and to King William Rufus.

That fall, he was again accepted as loyal to the King. In 1221, he sided with the Crown against William de Forz, Count of Aumale. In January 1229, he was ordered to assist the sherriff of Lincolnshire to ceasing shpes to be sent to Portsmouth for the the King's use.
