- History: 26 Dec 1557; One 27 December 1557, a French trading vessel was wrecked in the bay off of Slade. A number of Frenchmen were taken prisoner as there was a war on. Griffith and others boarded the ship and removed much of the goods as lawful booty. The next day, Sir George Herbert of Swansea and Sir Rice Mansel's kinsman demanded the booty. Several homes were searched and the booty removed including that of Griffith ap Owen. The band came to the Oxwich Castle and there a stone struck Anne Mansel, which led to her death six days later. The Star Chamber Court found Herbert's men guilty of seizing the booty and imprisoned them in the fleet.
