    Notes:

    Died:
He was mortally wounded at a tournament at Ware, which King Henry III had expressly forbidden, as he did not want any of his subjects killing one another in sport. Gilbert was thrown from his horse and his foot was caught in the stirrup, thus he was dragged for some distance on the ground and died from the injuries received.

While his body was buried beside his father and brother in the Temple Church, his entrails were buried in Herford Priory.

Gilbert married Marjorie of Scotland on 1 Aug 1235 in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England. Marjorie (daughter of William I "the Lion", King of the Scots and Ermengarde de Beaumont) was born in 1214; died on 17 Nov 1244; was buried in Dominican Church of the Blackfriars, London, England.
