Brunechilde's name was also spelt Brunechildis, in Latin.

According to Gregory of Tours, she was "elegant in all she did, lovely to look at, chaste and decorous in her behaviour, wise in her generation and of good address." She converted from Arianism to Catholicism for her husband and brought a large dowry.

After her husband's death, King Chilperich, her brother-in-law, seized her treasure in Paris and banished her to Rouen.

After the death in 599 of her son, King Childebert II, she was regent for her grandson, King Theodebert.

    Died:
She died from being tied by her hair, one arm, and a leg to the tail of an unbroken horse, being cut to shreds by the hooves as it ran.

Brunechilde married Sigebert I, King of the Franks in 566/67. Sigebert (son of Clothaire I, King of the Franks and Ingunde) was born in 535; died between Nov 575 and Dec 575; was buried in Abbey of Saint-Médard de Soissons, Soissons, Aisne, Hauts-de-France, France. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
