    In 1185, Geoffrey and Alice made a gift to Brockley (later Bayham Abbey) with the assent of Gilbert, bishop of Rochester, who did not succeed until that year.

    On 1 January 1198, Geoffrey de Say and his son, Geoffrey, made a grant to the hospital of Draincourt, providing for prayers for the soul of Alice "de Kaisneio", the mother of the younger Geoffrey.

    • General Information: He was the 2ed Earl of Essex.
    • History: Geoffrey de Say, attempted to recover the Mandeville estates from him in February 1213, but failed. On 4 November 1213, he succeeded as the Earl of Essex upon the death of his father. In April of 1215, he joined the barons against King John. On 16 December 1215, he and his brother, William, were excommunicated by the Pope.
    • Married: (1) Maud, the daughter of Robert FitzWalter of Woodham and Gunnor de Valoines. [Maud married Geoffrey de Mandeville Earl of Essex and Gloucester] She died about 1212. She was buried in Dunmow Priory.
    • Married: (2) Isabelle de Clare, Countess of Gloucester, the daughter of William FitzRobert Earl of Gloucester and Bristol and Hawise de Beaumont. She was born before 1176. On 29 August 1189 Isabelle, married first, John Lackland, King of England, at age 21, son of Henry II Curt Mantel, King of England and Eleanor of Aquitain, Dutchess of Aquitaine, in Marlborough Castle, Wiltshire, England. She and the King were divorced in 1199. John divorced her on the ground of consanguinity, her grandfather, Robert, being an illegitimate son of Henry I. [Isabelle married second Geoffrey de Mandeville, Earl of Essex and Gloucester] It appears that this marriage was forced upon Geoffrey. By it he became the Earl of Gloucester, however for this honor, he had to pay 20,000 marks. In September 1217 Isabelle married third, Hubert de Burgh, Earl of Kent, son of Walter de Burgh.5 She died 14 October 1217. She was buried in Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, Kent, England.

    • General Information: He was the 3rd Earl of Essex.
    • History: He was excommunicated, and imprisoned, but later absolved for his support of the barons. On 10 February 1214, he was released from prison. He soon joined the barons again, and was again excommunicated along with his brother. He did homage to the King of France, and then at the relief of Lincoln Castle, saved himself by fleeing. One 4 October 1217, he returned is allegiance to the king, and received his lands back. However, the 20,0000 mark fine was now his debt with the death of his brother.
    • Married: Before 18 Nov 1220; Christine, the daughter of Robert FitzWalter of Woodham and Gunnor de Valoines. [Christine, married first, William de Mandeville, Earl of Essex] Before 15 May 1227 Christine, married second, Raymond de Burgh. She died 17 June 1232.
