    "556. This year Cynric and Ceawlin fought....at Beranbury."

    In 560, he was crowned the King of the West Saxons. He was also called Bretwala, that is King of Kings.

    In 577 he captured Gloucester and Bath from the Britons.

    "591. This year there was a great slaughter of Britons at Wanborough; Ceawlin was driven from his kingdom."

    In 592 he was deposed by his nephew Ceola.

    "593. This year died Ceawlin."
