After the war, he felt the injustice of the Massachusetts government and raised a company of 100 men, and with 80 of them, marched to Worcester where he took control of the courthouse. By this action, he became the number two man of Shay's Rebellion, and fled to Canada upon its collapse. In 1791, he petitioned the town of Hubbardston to help him pay his debts incurred in the revolt. The town happily complied. He was a member of the Rutland Minute Company and marched to Cambridge after the Alarm in 1775.
