- In 485, he was crowned the King of Persia. [1]
- He was deposed by his brother, but escaped, and was later restored to the throne. He fought the Eastern Empire from 503 to 504, and again from 524 to 531. In 531, he invaded Syria. [1]

This became a model representation of kingship for Byzantine art and from there, in Carolingian art. Below the king is shown in a typical scene of the mystical hunter of mouflon (Leningrad: Hermitage). |
