Conrad LeRoy Gordon was born on 21 February 1905 at Falls Creek, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.1,2,3 He was the son of James Glenn Gordon and Dora Wolff. Conrad, age 5, appeared on the US Census of 1910 living at Elk Avenue, Kane, McKean County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James Glenn and Gordon.4 Conrad, age 15, appeared on the US Census of 1920 living at Wetmore Road, Wetmore Township, McKean County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James Glenn and Dora Gordon.5 Conrad, age 25, appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at 8811 Welch Street, Kane, McKean County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, James Glenn and Dora Gordon.6
Conrad married first on 19 July 1936 at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Crawford Fowler, the daughter of Harry M. and Mary Belle (Crawford) Fowler. She was born on 26 October 1903, and died on 13 October 1951, both in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. She is buried next to Conrad.7,8,9 Conrad, age 34 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 239 North Central Avenue, Canonsburg, Washington County, Pennsylvania, He was a lodger and married, but his wife does not show on the record.10 According to the Federal Census in 1940, Conrad was a teacher.10 On on 16 October 1940, Conrad registered for the World War II draft, while living at 239 N. Central Avenue, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, giving his age as 35, and his employer as the Canonsburg School District.2
Conrad, age 44 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 at Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with his first wife, Elizabeth.11 An unknown date , Conrad a member of F&AMasons 275, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Westmoreland Forest 77.
Conrad LeRoy Gordon married Althea Elizabeth Oakes, daughter of Charles Henry Brindle and Phoebe Lavina Green, in 1960.12 Conrad LeRoy Gordon died on 23 April 1978 at St. George, Washington County, Utah, at age 73 unexpectedly.1,3 Conrad's obituary of 24 April 1978, reads:
Conrad L Gordon, 73, of 1546 Woodlawn Drive, Latrobe, (Lawson Heights) died unexpectedly Sunday evening at St. George, Utah. He was born in Falls Creek, Pa., Feb. 21, 1905, a son of the late Glenn and Dora Wolff Gordon.
He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Latrobe, the Crusaders Class and Golden Age Club of the church, the F&AM 275 of Latrobe, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Westmoreland Forest 77 of Deny and Kedrian Commandry of Greensburg.
He formerly was employed at I.T.E., retiring in 1970.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Althea Brindle Gordon; one son, Leroy of Warren, Va; one daughter, Mrs. George (Jean) Hartzel of Fort Arthur, Tex; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Myers of Deny, Mrs. Barry (Janet) Moore of Loyalhanna and Mrs. Richard (Joanne) Schandel of Derry, and 12 grandchildren.
Family will receive friends in M.S. Hartman Funeral Home, Latrobe, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
Services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Gerald Bishop officiating.
Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery.
Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.3
