     Ralph Winfield Sanders was born on 12 March 1912 at Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2,3,4,5,6,1,7 He was the son of Ross W. Sanders and Mildred A. Baker.1 Ralph, age 8, appeared on the US Census of 1920 living at H3 Hempfield Slope, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, Ross W. and Mildred A. Sanders.8 Ralph, age 18, appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at 22 Clover-Dale Street, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, Ross W. and Mildred A. Sanders.9

Ralph married first on 16 July 1934, Eleanor Louise Piper, the daughter of Cecil Piper. She was born in 11 February 1914 and died in July 1976.2,1,7,4,10 Ralph, age 27 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 434 R Street, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with his first wife, Louise.11 On on 16 October 1940, Ralph registered for the World War II draft, while living at 430 Chestnut Street, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, giving his age as 28 and his employer as William H. Maxwell.7 He enlisted in the US Army 25 March 1942, and served to 10 October 1945.6,1 He was retired in 1978 as a machinist with the Gould Circuit Breaker Company.1

Ralph Winfield Sanders married Althea Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of Charles Henry Brindle and Phoebe Lavina Green, in 1980.12 Ralph Winfield Sanders died on 23 May 1994 at Edgewood Nursing Center, Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, at age 82.2,4,6,1 Ralph's obituary of 24 May 1994, reads:

Ralph Winfield Sanders, 82, of Latrobe died Monday, May 23, 1994, In Edgewood Nursing Center, Unity Township.

He was born March 12, 1912, In Bovard, a son of the late Ross and Mildred (Baker) Sanders.

Prior to his retirement in 1978, he was a machinist with the former Gould Circuit Breaker Co. In Southwest Greensburg.

He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Latrobe, and the Crusaders Sunday School Class.

A veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Greensburg American Legion and the Southwest Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Piper Sanders, and two brothers, Alfred and William.

He is survived by his wife, Althea E. Brindle Sanders; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Myers and Mrs. Richard (Joanne) Schandel, both of Derry, and Mrs. Barry (Janet) Moore of Tempe, Ariz; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 210 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Hartman-Graziano Wednesday in Funeral Home Inc., 1500 LIgonier St., Latrobe.

Funeral service will be held at p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Richard W. Shields officiating.

Interment will follow in Hiliview Cemetery, Greensburg.

Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, Latrobe.
