Lewis Shappy was born on 7 April 1838 at L'Acadie, Lower Canada, British North America.2 He was christened on 8 April 1838 at Église Sainte-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie, L'Acadie, Lower Canada, British North America.2 He was the son of Louis Shappy and Flavie Lambert dit Champagn.1
Lewis Shappy married Zoe Burnett, daughter of François Bonin and Zoe Babin dite LaCroix, in 1864 at New York State.
Lewis, age 31 years, and Zoe Shappy, age 25 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Swanton, Vermont.3 According to the Federal Census in 1870, Lewis was a farm laborer.3 Lewis, age 41 years, and Zoe, age 35 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 on 537 North Main Street, St. Albans, Vermont.4 According to the Federal Census in 1880, Lewis was a laborer.4 Lewis died on 24 February 1913 at home at Worcester, Massachusetts, at age 74.2,5 Lewis was buried on 25 February 1913 at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Saint Albans, Vermont.2,5 Lewis's obituary of 6 March 1913, reads:
The body of Lewis Shappy, 84 years old, who died at his home in Worcester, Mass., was brought to this city for burial Feb. 25. Services were held at the Holy Angels church, the Rev. P. E. Boivin officiating, and the body was placed in the vault at Mount Calvary cemetery. The decensed was survived by one daughter, Mary Ann, and by five sons, Wilfred, George, Fred, Lewis, all of Arcade, N. Y., and William, of Nashua, N. H. The bearers at the funeral were Lewis, William, George, Fred, Wilfred, and a nephew, Frank E. Shappy.
