George Joseph Travis

     George Joseph Travis was born on 1 December 1895 at Port Jervis, Orange County, New York.^1,2,3,4 He was the son of George William Travis and Margaret E. Sexton. George, age 5, appeared on the US Census of 1900 living at Deerpark, Orange County, New York,in the household of his parents, George William and Margaret E. Travis.¹ George, age 16, appeared on the US Census of 1910 living at Canal Street, Middletown, Orange County, New York,in the household of his parents, George William and Margaret E. Travis.⁵

George Joseph Travis, age 18, married Florence Margaret Miller, age 17 , daughter of Stephen Harvey Miller and Emily Amelia Dunham, on 5 February 1914 at the Middletown, Orange County, New York.



On 5 June 1918, George registered for the World War I draft, while living at Middletown, Orange County, New York, giving his age as 23 and he was employed as an ice man.² George, age 24 years, and Florence, age 23 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 on Deerpark, Orange County, New York.⁹ According to the Federal Census in 1920, George was a teamster in a coal yard.⁹ George, age 34 years, and Florence, age 33 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 on 186 Linden Avenue, Deerpark, Orange County, New York.¹⁰ According to the Federal Census in 1930, George was a chauffeur for a lumber company.¹⁰ George, age 44 years, and Florence, age 43 years, appeared on the US Census of 1940 on 36 Broad Street, Middletown, Orange County, New York.¹¹ According to the Federal Census in 1940, George was a laborer.¹¹ On in 1942, George registered for the World War II draft, while living at 36 Broad Street, Middletown, Orange County, New York, giving his age as 47 and his employer as the City of Middletown.⁴ George, age 54 years, appeared on the US Census of 1950 on 113 Railroad Street, Middletown, Orange County, New York. He was a truck driver for the City, and a widower, living with his daughter.¹² When his mother died, in March 1952, George lived at Middletown, Orange County, New York.¹³ He died on 25 March 1958 at Middletown, Orange County, New York, at age 62.¹⁴ George was buried at Mount Hope Plains Cemetery, Otisville, Orange County, New York.¹⁵
