George William Travis

     George William Travis was born on 10 November 1850 at Homowack (now Spring Glen), Sullivan County, New York.¹ He was the son of William Travis and Eliza Maria Schoonmaker. George William Travisappeared on the census of 1855 in the household of an unknown person and Eliza Maria Schoonmaker.² George, age 19, appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Mamakating, Sullivan County, New York,in the household of his parents, William and Eliza Maria Travis.³ George, age 24, appeared on the US Census of 1870 living at Mamakating, Sullivan County, New York,in the household of his parents, William and Eliza Maria Travis.⁴

George William Travis married Cynthia Jane Worden, daughter of David Worden and Rebecca Hogeboom, in 1872.⁵ George, age 24 years, and Cynthia, appeared on the New York State Census of 1875 at Mamakating, Sullivan County, New York.⁶ George Travis, 29 years, appeared as Head of Household with Cynthia, his wife, on the United States Census of 1880 at Wawarsing, Ulster County, New York.⁷

George William Travis, age 40, married Margaret E. Sexton, age 21 , daughter of Andrew M. Sexton and Ann Tulley, on 14 January 1891 at the Phillipsport, Mamakating, Sullivan County, New York.^1,8 George Travis, 49 years, appeared as Head of Household with Margaret, his wife, on the United States Census of 1900 at Deerpark, Orange County, New York.¹ George, age 59 years, and Margaret, age 40 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 on Canal Stree, Middletown, Orange County, New York.⁹ In 1917 George and Margaret lived at Middletown, Orange County, New York, according to the 1917 Middletown, New York, City Directory.¹⁰ George William Travis died on 5 February 1917 at Middletown, Orange County, New York, at age 66.¹¹
