Captain Jonathan Wood was born on 2 November 1701 at Rowley, Massachusetts.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Captain Ebenezer Wood and Rachel Nichols.1 Jonathanmoved to Upton, Massachusetts, in 1717 from Mendon with his family.2 He was the first Town Clerk of Upton, Massachusetts. He served for almost 20 years.4
Captain Jonathan Wood, age 19, married Margaret Thayer, age 18 , daughter of Benjamin Thayer and Sarah Haywood, on 15 December 1720 at Mendon, Massachusetts, by Mr. Joseph Dorr.
In 1723 he bought numerous lots of land in Mendon, Massachusetts.2
Captain Jonathan Wood, age 48, married Dorothy Brown, age 45 , daughter of Captain George Brown and Sarah Kidder, on 2 January 1750 at Upton, Massachusetts.
Jonathan was made Captain of the Training Band during the French and Indian War.4 Captain Jonathan Wood died on 4 February 1796 at Spencer, Massachusetts, at age 94.9,10,11,12,13 He was buried at Old Spencer Cemetery, Spencer, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Jonathan's epitaph reads:
