     James Sullivan was born at Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland.1 He immigrated in 1780 to Newfoundland and Labrador from Clonmel County Tipperary, Ireland. After immigration, he settled in King's Cove, Newfoundland.1 James was prominent in the establishment and growth of the fishing industry of King's Cove in the late 1st and early 19th centuries, recording Fishing Room 34 in Bonavista Bay in 1785.1

James Sullivan married Catherine Aylward, age 14 , daughter of James Robert Aylward and Mary Forestal, on 10 August 1803 at the St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.2,1
