Bessie Louise Burnett was born on 19 October 1922 at Northampton, Massachusetts.1,2,3,4,5,6,7 She was the daughter of Murvil Francis Burnett and Irene Francelia Eddy. Bessie, age 7, appeared on the US Census of 1930 living at 111 Pleasant Street, Northampton, Massachusetts,in the household of her parents, Murvil Francis and Irene Francelia Burnett.8 Bessie, age 17, appeared on the US Census of 1940 living at 5 Market Street, Northampton, Massachusetts,in the household of her parents, Murvil Francis and Irene Francelia Burnett. She did housework for a private family. Her highest grade completed was the 7th grade.9 As of 19 July 1941,her married name was Gore.
Bessie Louise Burnett, age 18, married Raymond William Gore Jr., age 21 , son of Raymond William Gore and Evelyn Porter, on 19 July 1941 at New London, New Hampshire.
As of 1953,her married name was Leonard.
Bessie Louise Burnett married Clyde Austin Leonard, son of William Ernest Leonard and Carrie Mary Facteau, in 1953 at Warwick, Massachusetts.10 Her married name was Freeman.
Bessie Louise Burnett married Leonard Arnold Freeman, son of Leonard Freeman and Ruth Courtney.11 When her father died, in December 1963, Bessie lived at Orange, Massachusetts.12 She died on 27 October 2003 at Northampton, Massachusetts, at age 81.5,13,6 Bessie's obituary of 28 October 2003, reads:
NORTHAMPTON Bessie Louise Freeman, 81, of Elm Street, died Monday at Calvin Coolidge Rehab. Center, Northampton. Born in Northampton, October 19th, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Murvil F. and Irene F. (Eddy) Burnett.
She attended Northampton schools and received Nursing Assistant training at Smith Vocational High School. She lived in Orange, MA, Northampton, Easthampton, and Springfield, returning to Northampton in 2001. She was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church. She was an avid square dancer and was involved with area clubs for many years.
She was predeceased by her three husbands, Raymond W. Gore, Clyde A. Leonard and Leonard A. Freeman. She leaves two sons, Richard D. Gore of Worcester, MA, Robert E. Gore of Barre, MA; two daughters, Dawn L. Brooks of Broken Arrow, OK, and Theresa J. Koloski of Easthampton; one brother, Murvil "Bucky" Burnett, Jr. or Florida; five sisters, D Dorothy I.
Hutson of Lakeland, FL, Marguerite M. DeLonge of Chicopee Falls, MA, Beverly Ann O'Brien of Athol, MA, Vera Mae Starkey of Sacramento, CA, and Irene F. Gernon of Upland, CA; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grand-children, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St.
John's Episcopal Church, Elm St., Northampton with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pease Funeral Home, 425 Prospect St., Northampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 11 Campus Lane, Easthampton, MA 01027.
