Joseph Thomas Sauls was born on 6 December 1860 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Sauls and Anna Shields. Joseph, age 4 months, appeared on the US Census of 1860 living at Temperanceville (now West End), Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,in the household of his parents, Thomas and Anna Sauls.3
Joseph Thomas Sauls married Elizabeth Scully, daughter of Daniel Scully and Ellen McCormick.
Joseph, age 49 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 on 141 Main Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, living with his step father.9 Joseph, age 59 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, He was a widower and an engineer.10 He died on 9 February 1920 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at age 59.
Joseph's obituary of 11 February 1920, reads:

Compeller's Note:
His death certifiate lists his birth as 6 December 1860, however, he appears on the 1860 Census as 4 months old. His birth was probably in 1859, but who ever filled out the death certificate information, knew his birthday, but not his birth year. I have listed his birth date as it appears in his death record.
